Freelance Tech Reporter—Transportation

Observer is looking for a part-time reporter to cover entrepreneurship and leadership in electric vehicles, commercial space travel, and other emerging modes of transportation. We’re seeking someone fascinated by not only the latest inventions but also the entrepreneurs and investors behind them.

The ideal candidate should have a strong interest and an expansive network of sources in these industries. They should also have a good understanding of the broader worlds of business, corporate finance and economy.

At its core, this beat will be about how the most innovative minds in these emerging industries come up with ideas and make things happen. We’re looking for a reporter who can see the big picture but embraces the details and is entrepreneurial in finding and pitching stories.

We’re looking for a reporter with:
- At least two years of experience in business journalism.

- A facility for writing both breaking news and longer enterprise stories
- The ability to attend and cover industry events
- Comfort with data and experience building their own charts
- An eagerness to find and pitch story ideas regularly

- High journalistic standards, attention to detail, and the skeptical heart of a fact-checker

Our standard rate is $200 to $300 per article for 600-800 words. Higher rates are negotiable for exclusives and features. It is limited to U.S.-based applicants. To apply, please send your resume to jobs@observer.com along with three to five writing samples or a link to a personal website/portfolio.
